Macron's Theater Days, His Unpublished Novels, and the Permanent Crisis of his Regime with Charles Devellennes

Marlon and Olly interview Charles Devellennes, who's the Senior Lecturer in Political and Social Thought at the University of Kent.

Charles tells the about Macron's literary style, the unpublished novels Macron wrote, and the enduring effect Milan Kundera's "Jacques et son maître" had on young Emmanuel.

Charles also tells us about the own trajectory his interest in philosophy took him on down the path of political science, which culminated in his 2022 book The Macron Régime: The Ideology of the New Right in France.

We talk about that book, and about security, merit, and hope.

There's also speculation about the state of the left in France today and tomorrow, and a look at the right in France of yesterday and the future.
